Please read the following information:
* Our marking period will end this Friday, February 26. Therefore all late work for Ch. 13 and 14 must be turned in by Wednesday, February 24th.
*There will be a test covering Sections 1-4, pp. 219- 226 of Ch. 14 on Wednesday. Students should use the same strategies taught for the Ch. 13 test. They should also study the end of the chapter study guide and review questions.
*We will not have Newsbowl next week due to ISAT testing. Therefore we will only have S.S. two days next week.
*We will follow our advisory schedule next week. Students will begin testing on Tuesday at 9:00 A.M. and finish at 11:30 A.M.. We will inform the children about heir afternoon schedule of classes.
*Remember there will be no school next Monday due to the Pulaski Day holiday.

Important Information:
• Students must have their outline conference with me by Monday, February 22. Once they have had their outline conference they can begin writing their 1st draft. Your first draft will be written at home.
• Upcoming research due dates:
o Monday, February 22: Typed Outline using Power Notes- due
o Friday, February 26: Typed Draft of Research Paper
• In class this week we are going to hand-write our first draft of the persuasive essay. We will type and peer edit it in class the following week. You will do all of this paper in school- out of school you need to focus on your research paper!
• The Chicago Board Options Exchange permission slip and Monday is due on Tuesday 3/9. Be sure to get those into me ASAP!
• The 6th Reading Log is due on Tuesday, March 16. Don’t forget signatures!!!
• ISAT TESTING begins NEXT WEEK!!! Be sure to be on time for school next Tuesday and come in well rested and with a good breakfast in your tummy! Do your best!!!
• The 2nd Trimester ENDS on Friday, February 26th. ALL LATE WORK ON TEAM 6-3 is due on WEDNESDAY 2/24! REMEMBER we accept NO late work at all during the 3rd Trimester!

*Students were assigned a Newsbowl category last week because they will participate in another Newbowl competition on this Friday. In order for them to be prepared for the competition each student was told to locate a notable article from last week’s news and write a brief summary about it. My students were also told to bring a copy of the article to school to share with their Newsbowl group. The summaries should be brief explaining who, when, where, what, why, and how. It is due on Wednesday, Feb. 17th.
*Ch. 13 tests were returned last Friday.
* Our marking period will end next Friday, February 26. Therefore all late work for Ch. 13 and 14 must be

• Students will spend the entire week doing research on their catastrophic event. Although they will have class time students will need to do research at home too.
• Upcoming research due dates:
o Wednesday 2/10: Students need to have at least 15 note cards done.
o Friday 2/11: Collect students final note cards (minimum of 25)
• The February Reading Log is due on Friday, February 12. Don’t forget signatures!!!
• Remember our schedule is different this week. We will follow this schedule: 1st per, 8th per, 9th per in the morning instead of our 1st- 3rd period schedule. Students will still have 4th - 7th period as normal. Then instead of 8th and 9th periods in the afternoon, we will have 2nd and 3rd period classes in the afternoon.

Important Information:
• Students received information regarding the Research Paper we are beginning to write. The signed parent letter and topic choices are due on Wednesday 2/3. Be sure to follow all the due dates given!
• Students working in the Red Fern Read Ahead Group must continue writing their comparison essay. The essay is due on Friday, February 5.
• Students will take a Red Fern Vocabulary Test (chapters 12-20) on Monday February 1.
• The final Red Fern Comprehension Test will be on Tuesday, February 2.
• Winter Conferences are on Thursday, February 4. Scheduled conference times went home two weeks ago. Please email me if you need to change your time.
• Our school started Penny Wars two weeks ago to raise money for the Haiti Relief Fund. Bring pennies and paper currency for your advisory and silver coins to bomb☺ other advisories. Penny Wars end in one week, on Monday, Feb 8.
