*There will be a Ch. 13 test on Thursday, February 4th.
*Starting this week, all my classes will participate in a Newsbowl current events activity. This will be done every other week. You may preview the Newsbowl website at: www.newsbowl.com
*Last week I offered students 5 bonus points if they would go online to the newsbowl website, complete 4 or more sections of the practice newsbowl test, print, and return it to me. It is due on Wednesday.
* Mid-term grades are now available online since last Friday. If you have not viewed your child’s mid-term grades please do so this week and sign the mid-term progress report letter, indicating you have seen your child’s grades. The letter should be returned to your child’s reading/L.A. teacher.

Important Information:
• Friday 1/22 marked the mid-term in Trimester 2! Please be sure to log onto the online gradebook to view your child’s grades. Students who earned D's and/or U's by mid-term should have received a progress report in the mail.
• Students received a mid-term confirmation letter. Please sign and return the letter indicating you have viewed your child's grades either online or via the mail. If you are having trouble accessing your grades, send me an email with your current login information so I can check it for accuracy.
• Students working in the Red Fern Read Ahead Group must continue reading The Call of the Wild and then begin writing their essay. The essay is due on Friday, February 5.
• Verb Differentiation: Keep up with your verb due dates and expectations.
• Students will take a Chapter 4 VERBS test on Thursday, January 28.
• Students will take a Red Fern Vocabulary Test (chapters 12-20) on Monday February 1.
• The final Red Fern Comprehension Test will be on Tuesday, February 2.
• Spring Conferences are on Thursday, February 4. Scheduled conference times were verbally given to students home to write in planners on Friday. You will receive a written confirmation on Tuesday.
• Our school started Penny Wars last week to raise money for the Haiti Relief Fund. Bring in your pennies and paper currency for your advisory and silver coins to bomb☺ other advisories.
• The February Reading Log is due on Tuesday, February 12. Don’t forget signatures!!!

Important Information:
• If the students who are working in the Red Fern Read Ahead Group are ready, they may take their comprehension test this week instead of on Tuesday, January 26. The students need to be done with the comprehension questions in the packet as well. They are also required to keep up with the vocabulary and take vocab tests.
• All students will take a Chapter 1-11 Vocabulary Test on Tuesday, January 19.
• Verb Differentiation: Keep up with your verb due dates and expectations.
• Students will take a Chapter 4 VERBS test on Thursday, January 28.
• Students will take a Red Fern Vocabulary Test (chapters 12-20) on Monday February 1. The final Red Fern Comprehension Test will be on Tuesday, February 2.

Important Information:
• Conference forms will be sent home on Monday. Please complete return promptly
• Remember students- you are responsible for making up late and absent work. The best time to see your teachers and find out what is missing is during lunch.
• On Monday, I will discuss with students the requirements for participating in the differentiated read-ahead group. Students working in the read-ahead group must be done reading the novel and ready to take a comprehension test over the entire novel on Tuesday, January 26. These students need complete the comprehension and vocabulary questions in the packet as well. This will help interested students study for the test so they can earn an “A” thus affording them the opportunity to participate in the read-ahead group. Students are also required to take all vocabulary tests.
• All students will take a short comprehension quiz covering Ch. 1-7 on Tuesday, Jan. 12th.
• The Chapter 1-11 vocabulary test has been changed to next Tuesday, January 19.
• Verb Differentiation: Keep up with your verb due dates and expectations.

*Students will have only one more classroom day in the Media Center to use the computers to work on their project. Therefore students that do not have a working computer, must do their research and/or typing at the public library, or at the Media Center before school, after school, or during lunchtime.
* My students will participate in an Olympic Games activity this week. I have a committee of students that are planning the activities instead of completing the assigned Connections/Contribution project. Each student planning an Olympic Game must create a poster with clearly written instructions for his/her particular game. Poster and all materials for the games are due Wednesday.

• We’ll begin our Where the Red Fern Grows novel study this week. Students may not read ahead of the assigned chapters due to certain prediction activities. I will notify students regarding differentiated activities on Friday, January 8.
• Students will have a short comprehension quiz covering Chapters 1-7 on Tuesday, January 12. You will also take a Chapter 1-11 Vocabulary Test on Friday, January 15.
• Students will all take a Verb pre-assessment on Monday. Those students showing mastery of verbs will work on a variety of different activities over the course of Grammar Chapter 4. They will receive a handout with expectations and due dates.
• The 4th Reading Log is due on Tuesday, January 12. You cannot include the Greek Myth book on your reading log unless you have read the entire book. Don’t forget to get parent signatures!
